Here’s 60 seconds with our VA Samantha Odogwu:
Name: Samantha Odogwu
Area of expertise: PA, Office management, Administration, Email and Diary management, Organisational skills, Touch typing
When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I first joined Get Ahead in May 2022. I had recently been looking at work opportunities with the flexibility to fit around my child whilst still challenging and making use of my skillset; a friend suggested becoming a VA, so after having initially contacted Get Ahead and seeing how professional they were I felt it was a good next step for me.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA:
Previously I worked for 10 years as a PA and senior administrative assistant, for a group of McDonald’s franchise stores and business managers.
I most recently carrying out PA and administrative roles for both a film director alongside business management and development for a small group of local childminders. I am responsible for set coordination, child licencing, administrative tasks, email and diary management, data inputting, bookkeeping, risk assessment writing, policy writing, invoicing, and telephone communications. This allows me to use my varied administrative skills in Microsoft office in order to produce a high standard of work.
Career highlight to date:
When working with the film director I was tasked with Child safety in order to ensure all children working on set had the correct documents along with ensuring all policies and practices reflected child safety. I was tasked with completing child licencing requirements and DBS for all adults on set. This involved liaising with a wide range of Local authorities and their designated child licencing and child safety teams. We also had children cast from abroad meaning I was able to liaise with a range of clients and their agencies in a range of other countries. I was able to achieve the goals set well ahead of the deadline, meaning a great result and a smooth film set for the director.
Plans for the future:
I am looking forward to working with Get Ahead, developing my skills further and improving on the services I can offer to a range of clients. A job well done that allows for excellent work/life balance.
