Here’s 60 seconds with our expert Jenny

Name: Jenny

Area of expertise:

Copy and content writing and editing (newsletters, blogs, articles, web copy and more!) Getting creative on Canva to produce social media assets and marketing collateral. General marketing and admin support for small businesses, solo business owners and charities.

When & why did you join Get Ahead:

I have just joined (February 2021) and I’m really excited to get started! I joined because I find it so rewarding to help small businesses to grow whilst giving solo business owners precious time back in their day. I know how it feels trying to juggle it all! Through the Get Ahead VA network, I have the opportunity to meet and support many more small business owners.

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead:

I’ve been working as a Virtual Assistant under Jennifer Palmer, The Contemporary PA. I started my VA business in October 2019 and before that I worked as a Marketing Executive for a social enterprise in London, as an Account Executive for a marine communications agency and as a Social Media Executive for a creative agency, both in Poole.

Whilst I worked in London, I had a range of marketing responsibilities, including managing internal networking events, maintaining a community website, producing the monthly newsletter and writing blogs. I enjoyed working with charities from a variety of industries, from education and health to animal welfare and international aid.

I have a degree in Media and Communications from Bournemouth University, I volunteered as a PR Officer on several major projects for a youth charity and I’ve lived in Nepal for nearly five years.

Career highlight to date:

Starting and managing my own business for the first time. Wearing all the hats- HR, admin, client management, marketing, sales and accounting!

Stepping out of my comfort zone to take part in networking events, have 1:1’s with business owners and learn new skills.

Plans for the future:

I plan to grow my business by working with more solo business owners and small charities, ideally local to me in Dorset. I’m also keen to work with businesses that have an eco-friendly or sustainable ethos.

I will keep learning and expanding my skillset for the benefit of my clients.

Provide mentoring and training to those who are keen to expand their digital skills.
