Social media: strategy

Strategy

The thinking layer, before a single post goes out.

A strategic approach to online marketing

“We need more posts” is usually the wrong starting point. The businesses that get real value from social media have already answered a more basic question: what should social media actually be doing for this business, and who is it trying to reach?

That’s what Strategy delivers. It’s not content, and it’s not execution, it’s clarity: a full audit of what you’re doing now (if anything), a clear recommendation on which one or two platforms are actually right for your business, rather than a scattergun presence across all of them, and a clear sense of voice, tone and purpose so anything you publish afterward sounds like you, not like a template.

From there, we build a 90-day content framework: themes, pillars, and a realistic rhythm your business can actually sustain. Everything comes together in a single-page Social Media Brief that you own outright, whether you use it yourself, hand it to someone in-house, or bring it back to us for the next stage.

Built on real platform knowledge, not guesswork

Our Regional Directors have used these platforms commercially, not just read about them. Vicky McKenna, Get Ahead’s Regional Director for Oxfordshire, spent years running her own social media agency before joining us, and her honest, platform-by-platform verdicts (real client results included, from a Pinterest campaign that grew impressions from 90,000 to nearly 400,000 in four weeks, to a client still getting over 100 visitors a week from Pins created months earlier) sit behind the recommendations you’ll get. As she puts it: the platforms haven’t changed, the humans have left. Strategy is about making sure your business is one of the ones still genuinely showing up, on the platform where it actually matters.

If you’ve never had a proper strategy, or you’ve been posting without one for a while, this is where to start. Get in touch to talk through what Strategy would look like for your business.

Common Questions About Working With Get Ahead

Do I need to already be active on social media before I start Strategy?

No. Strategy is designed for both starting points: businesses posting without a clear plan, and businesses with no presence at all who want to get it right from the outset. The output, an audit, a platform recommendation, and a content framework, works either way.

What do I actually walk away with?

A single-page Social Media Brief covering your recommended platforms, your audience and tone of voice, and a 90-day content framework of themes and pillars. You own it outright, whether you action it yourself, hand it to someone in-house, or bring it back to us for Build or Run.

Will you tell me to be on every platform?

No, the opposite. Strategy usually narrows things down to the one or two platforms that are genuinely right for your business, rather than spreading your time thinly across all of them.

Do I have to use Get Ahead for the execution afterwards?

No. The Social Media Brief is yours to use however suits you. Some businesses take it in-house, some hand it to another supplier, and some move straight into Build with us. There’s no obligation either way.

Who is behind the recommendations?

Our team have run social media commercially themselves, not just studied it. Vicky McKenna, Regional Director for Oxfordshire, ran her own social media agency before joining Get Ahead, and her platform-by-platform assessments, including real client results, inform the approach.
