When & why did you join Get Ahead:
I joined Get Ahead in November 2023, a few months after taking the leap into the freelance world. It gives me the flexibility to work around my family and helps me connect with businesses that are the best fit for me. This gives me the chance to dedicate my time to what I enjoy most, which is collaborating with clients and being creative.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead:
I worked as a Technical Operator at the BBC for ten years specialising in creating motion graphics for broadcast, online and social media. Alongside this I ran my own blog and social media channels, working with a wide variety of brands to create content for my own and their blogs and social media. As part of this I ran the social media accounts and website for a small sustainable clothing business and a local community group.
After having my son in 2022 I decided to merge all the aspects of my career into one and become a freelance Graphic Designer and Content Creator/Social Media Manager. This has allowed me to work flexibly around my family as well as providing me with so many exciting opportunities. It’s important to me that I enjoy the work I’m doing while I’mspending that time away from my son, while also setting the example that you can have a career you love if you work hard for it!
Career highlight to date: My very first freelance job was a lengthy animated infographic for a charity helping prison leavers. It was exciting to have taken on such a big job so early in my freelance career and it was my first taste of working with a client where I felt so aligned with their values, which I have come to realise is important to me in my work. It was the biggest sign to me that going freelance was the best decision I could have made.
Plans for the future:
My main career goal right now is to expand my freelance work and create some great content to help brands and small businesses grow. Personally, I would love to finally get round to finishing decorating our house!
