When & why did you join Get Ahead:
I joined the Get Ahead VA team in May 2013, after a friend recommended it. I met and hit it off with Rebecca, founder of Get Ahead VA, straight away – I really liked her flexible approach to working and it really suited my family set-up.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead:
I worked in Accounts departments of both small and large businesses for many years as well as working as a self-employed bookkeeper. I then came to the world of social media via expert trainer Nicky Kriel. Whilst Nicky loves teaching social media, I found that managing social media pages came naturally to me. It requires the same methodical approach that was so important in accounts – planning to ensure that the right things happen on the right days – but with words rather than numbers which is great fun!
Career highlight to date:
Seeing companies benefit from my work is always a highlight, such as when one client won a Social Media Award for PR work on Twitter at The Therapy Expo. I also train some clients on a 1-2-1 basis and it is great to see them start to understand the potential of social media for their business.
Plans for the future:
Workwise I am looking forward to continuing to spread the word about how powerful social media is and to build awareness of my client’s businesses. Personally I am looking forward to our summer holiday glamping in the Hobbit village in Cornwall which should be great fun as our kids are Lord of the Rings mad!
