Here’s 60 seconds with our expert Hana:

Name: Hana

Area of expertise:  Human Resources and General Administration

When & why did you join Get Ahead:

I joined in September 2021 after deciding to utilise my skills and experience to support small and mid-size businesses. I keep up to date with HR legislation, through Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) membership, and enjoy a variety of work ranging from general administration to complex HR challenges.

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead:

I work as part time HR Manager for a software development business (Kloc) where I am responsible for all HR support.

I first was exposed to HR services when joining Vodafone UK as a HR administrator, gaining vital experience and knowledge within this career path. After redundancy from Vodafone, I joined Hilton Hotels as a Regional HR Manager, supporting 300+ staff across three hotels in the South East region. This is where I gained valuable knowledge into complex HR needs. I changed sectors and joined Newbury College where I adapted to the very different working environment because of the complex educational structure and other factors relating to teaching and student support.

Working across these different sectors has provided me with valuable experience and understanding of different working environments. The organisations have been varied in terms of size and complexity of governance where I have learnt to be flexible and understanding of differing needs.

Career highlight to date:

I gained Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) Level 3 qualification in 2012 and continue to maintain Associate Membership.

I have gained detailed knowledge across the whole HR spectrum from recruitment, through employee relations, process development and improvement, redundancies, Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) (TUPE), grievances and disciplinaries. More recently I have navigated and advised on furlough scenarios during the pandemic.

As an example, I successfully advised a former employer with settling a major employment dispute which prevented a costly Tribunal hearing and subsequent potential monetary loss and brand impact to the company.

Plans for the future:

I am looking to create long-term relationships with a wider portfolio of businesses, supporting them with a variety of tasks, such as HR advice and guidance allowing them to make educated and informed decisions.

I strive to create great working relationships through excellent communication and a partnership approach.
