Here’s 60 seconds with one of our clients Shannon Banks from Be Leadership who was looking for a flexible way to scale up her business:
What situation was your business in when you came to Get Ahead VA?
My business was just starting its third year and was growing rapidly. I was getting more requests for business than I could handle. Meanwhile I was becoming stretched – doing everything myself from arranging flights to delivering leadership development programmes. I was struggling to figure out how to scale up and I realised it was time I tried to find someone I could trust to help me.
What problems were you experiencing?
I was starting to turn away new clients as I simply didn’t have the capacity to deliver what they wanted. I was concerned that the quality of my work would start to slip if I stretched myself any further. I was becoming frustrated as I knew I was spending time on things that I didn’t need to spend time on.
What might have happened if you hadn’t taken any action?
The business wouldn’t have grown was quickly as I wanted. Opportunities would have been missed which in the long term may have caused my business to stagnate if I wasn’t able to grow and delegate tasks that weren’t a valuable use of my time.
How did Get Ahead VA help solve the problem for you?
When I met Rebecca from Get Ahead VA I knew I had found the answer. I had spent a few months looking for a virtual assistant and talked to a few companies but I wasn’t convinced they understood what I needed. But Rebecca instantly seemed to understand what support I required. She introduced me to Jenny who also seemed to get it straight away. I wanted someone who could do many things and was willing to just jump in and help with what I needed. I really feel I have found that in Jenny. She has completed a variety of tasks for me including travel, design and admin, meaning I can focus on client service and delivery.
Why did you choose a VA and not a part time member of staff?
I didn’t feel ready to employ a part time member of staff yet and I like the flexibility of being able to pay for what I need, when I need it. I can scale up and down and change my needs at any time.
What has this meant to you and your business?
I have had a more successful year and I continue to feel good about the work I am delivering. I feel better prepared for next year where I expect to see the business continue to grow. I know I have got the right support behind me in Jenny. When you run a small business and are used to doing everything yourself it can be hard to delegate. But having gone through that process and built a trust relationship with Jenny I feel better prepared for the future and am excited to see just how far my business can grow.
