When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I am in the process of being signed up with Get Ahead. I was introduced to the company by my accountant. Having looked at Get Ahead I realised it was a great opportunity to find new work and become part of a community which I have missed due to working on my own from home.

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I have had lots of roles within my local authority having joined in 1989 at the age of 20 and leaving in 2016, the vast majority of which were office based admin roles. I then trained as a driving instructor and did that, working for myself for around four years. In 2019 in became a Travel Counsellor having bought a franchise, which is similar to being a travel agent but in my view, is much more personal than that. In 2021 I gave up the franchise and began to work as a virtual assistant for a friend who has her own company.

Career highlight to date: Probably qualifying as a driving instructor as it was completely different to anything I had done before and very much out of my comfort zone. I successfully ran my own business for four years and helped many pupils achieve the dream of obtaining their driving licence.

Plans for the future: To keep busy doing what I love to do! Nothing too fancy but I’m very happy doing what I do.
