When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I joined Get Ahead in January 2021.
I returned to the UK in 2019 after working in the UAE for 7 years and moved to a very remote area. I really didn’t want to spend time commuting, especially after having a child, so I decided to utilise 13+ years experience as an EA and become a freelance Virtual Assistant. Having the flexibility to work from home and be there for my child when needed, is an absolute blessing.
I found Get Aheads company ethos and positive outlook very inspiring and after meeting Rebecca and hearing about the team and their processes, I wanted to be part of it.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I had been working as a freelance Virtual Assistant for over 1 year, supporting CEOs of SMEs & business start-ups with general PA duties, along with helping to grow their teams by providing Human Resources administration and assisting with recruitment.
Prior to this, I had spent 7 years working in the UAE as an EA. This is where my real passion for Human Resources began, whilst supporting the Chief Personnel Officer at Atlantis the Palm.
I also obtained great Events Management experience whilst working in the Pharmaceutical industry, project managing events for up to 500 attendees. I was fortunate to manage not only the logistics of global attendees, but also the branding, content and team building aspects.
Career highlight to date: Working within the Executive Office at the iconic Atlantis the Palm Resort would be one, whilst beating a managers CIPD grade by getting a distinction would be another!
In terms of achievement highlights, working with an SME company on their recruitment project and helping their team grow from 2 to 10 people within the space of 3 months. Creating an onboarding pack from scratch, ensuring their employee files were compliant, putting new policies and procedures into place and setting up a HR CRM to support their future needs. It was hugely satisfying seeing this develop.
Plans for the future: I can’t see myself ever wanting to return to a typical 9 – 5 job. Being a VA is the way forward for me. It’s really satisfying working with different clients and having variety in my work.
I would love the opportunity to develop my Human Resources skills further and undergo a CIPD HR Management Diploma.
