We think of summer as a time when business slows right down (or stops altogether in some parts of the world). After nine months of keeping our heads down and focusing on the bottom line, summer holidays and summer weather suddenly conspire to make us ease up on the throttle and take it all less seriously. Which is as it should be!
However, this also means that summer can be the perfect time to look at business areas that you don’t normally have time for.
Here are a few recent suggestions from The Washington Post online:
- Grow your network. Take advantage of people’s lighter summer schedules and more relaxed frame of mind, and contact potential clients to suggest a casual coffee or walk in the park. Attend a new conference or networking event (or picnic or barbecue!), and start conversations;
- Refresh your website. Make sure it’s updated, easy to navigate, and mobile-device compatible;
- Assess your goals. Reflect on where you’ve been this year, and where you are going. Are you on target? If not, make the adjustments now that will keep the next six months on track;
- Touch base with your staff. Organise two-way assessments and training as a break from the usual duties, and talk to people; they are the pulse of your business.
