Meet the VA: Keryn Thompsett

Here’s 60 seconds with one of our virtual assistants (VAs) Keryn who joined the team last year to work part time around her young son:

When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I joined Get Ahead VA in December 2016 after being introduced to Rebecca through a mutual friend.  I was looking to get back into some part time work which would allow me to be flexible for my son who has recently started school.  Get Ahead VA was ideal; I loved what Rebecca Newenham had designed as a business and the structure of all the VAs being experts in their own fields, working towards the business model but being flexible to work around their families and commitments.  This is extremely difficult to find and with Get Ahead VA it works fantastically.

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I have spent the last five years bringing up my gorgeous son Zak as a full time mummy and loved every minute of it. Time passes so quickly and those really are the magic years!  Last summer I took on a virtual assistant role for a local business helping them with administration.  That was my first introduction into the world of virtual assistance and it showed me how I could work flexibly from home and around the needs of my family.  Prior to having Zak, I worked in London for five years as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Regional Director, London & Germany at The Leading Hotels of the World.  This was a busy and varied role and one which I loved.  From planning familiarisation trips for clients all over the world to minute taking on conference calls and keeping track of international travel diaries no one day was ever the same.  It was great to stay in 5 star properties such as in Paris, Dublin and London.  That type of service and luxury never gets old!

Career highlight to date: After leaving college in Chichester I was fortunate to work in San Francisco for a year as a Management Trainee for The Fairmont hotel chain.  The Fairmont is a five-star hotel company with properties all over the world and this was a fantastic opportunity for me at just 18 years old.  I learnt so much about myself and other cultures.  The experience really shaped me both professionally and personally.

Plans for the future: Professionally I am really looking forward togrowing the South-East region for Get Ahead VA and bringing new clients on board.  I want to continue to build on business relationships and work hard to really highlight what Get Ahead VA is all about.  Personally I am determined to get fitter this year and not waste that gym membership!  I am looking forward to making memories with my family and of course Zak.  We have lots of adventures to look forward to this year especially our summer holiday to Crete.
