Meet our VA: Lara Doherty

Here at Get Ahead VA our people are everything.  Our ever growing team has a wide range of highly skilled virtual assistants with different backgrounds, expertise and even different personalities to ensure that we can find exactly the right VA to match our customers' requirements.

Here’s 60 seconds with one of the VAs Lara Doherty who recently joined our team, bringing with her over a decade of experience in business development and relationship management:

Lara Small

Name: Lara Doherty

Area of expertise: Introducer, lead generator, relationship builder, networker, a great all-rounder!

When & why did you join Get Ahead VA:  Early on in my career I worked with a company called Ten Group managing a team of Lifestyle Managers (virtual PAs) in London.  I was curious to see if there was a similar company based near me.  After searching on Google I came across Get Ahead VA.  I read about the company, liked what I saw and called Rebecca to find out more.  I really wanted to be part of the team as I loved the ethos of the business.  In October this year I became an official Get Ahead VA team member.

What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I worked in London for over five years for an award winning digital marketing agency called Precedent.  I ran their relationship management team and promoted their website design services to potential clients such as WWF and J.P. Morgan Asset Management.  Both went on to become clients of the agency.  Prior to that I spent five years working as a Lifestyle Manager and then Team Leader at Ten Group.  I was responsible for managing new business as well as the management of over 260 members, all high net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs and celebrities.

Career highlight to date: I am really proud to have made many successful introductions during my career which have turned into new business for organisations.  I love being able to help and connect people together when I can clearly see how they can benefit each other.  A real personal highlight was when on a volunteering sabbatical.  I spent 5 months in Sri Lanka volunteering for the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society and 6 weeks working for the Orangutan Foundation in Borneo.  It was such an amazing experience to immerse myself in another culture and be so close to such wonderful animals.

Plans for the future: I am challenging myself to put on a networking event in Guildford early in the new year for small business owners so I am really excited about that.  The venue is all booked and now I am busy organising the rest of the details.  I love working on new projects and putting my organisational skills into action.  I am also moving house so my organisational skills are definitely being well used at the moment!

We love to take on the tasks that you don’t have the time to do, don’t have the skills to do, or simply don’t want to do.  We pride ourselves on being the staff you don’t see, but the difference you do.
