When & why did you join Get Ahead VA: I joined Get Ahead VA in May 2016. I was looking to join a virtual assistant business as I knew I would be able to work flexibly from home around my little girl. I found Get Ahead VA online and was immediately impressed by the website. I met with Rebecca Newenham shortly afterwards. Rebecca is so switched on and I really admire the company that she has built.
What did you do before you joined Get Ahead VA: I have worked in a variety of marketing, administration and events management roles over the past nine years. I spent four years at car retailer Toyota GB managing internal and external events on both a national and international basis. I also managed dealer websites and incentives. I then spent just over a year in Canada working at the British High Commission in an administrative role. Most recently I worked as a PA and Office Manager at a university before I took a break to become a mum. This PA role covered all the key aspects of diary and meeting management, event planning, budget reporting, expenses reconciliation and invoice processing.
Career highlight to date: Organising official events for the British High Commissioner to Canada. They were very high profile events and I worked really hard to ensure every detail was covered. Invitations, tables plans, menus – every little detail came down to me. I had to make sure everything was perfect and that the events ran smoothly.
Plans for the future: I am really enjoying being a virtual assistant and the variety of the work that I am doing. I am excited to be opening up the Redhill and Reigate area for Get Ahead VA. There are so many fantastic local businesses there that would really benefit from our service. I have already made lots of new connections through networking meetings and events. Personally, I have promised myself I am going to get fitter so will be out training. I will be trying to stay motivated through the coming autumn and winter nights!
