Last night we were lucky to attend the national mumandworking awards ceremony in London and what an inspirational night it was. We were attending as a finalist in the Flexible Business of the Year category – the category we won back in 2014.
The awards are designed celebrate and showcase the exemplary businesses, individuals and associates demonstrating that family-friendly, flexible working 'works' - benefiting parents and children as well as businesses and the UK economy. Competition this year was very fierce with judges describing the 2016 finalists as ‘outstanding’.
The awards event took place at RBS, being hosted by Natwest. It was attended by nearly two hundred finalists, judges, press representatives and VIP guests. Judges and speakers included Sarah Willingham (as seen on BBC's Dragon's Den), Caprice Bourret, Susannah Schofield OBE, Julie Baker, Head of Enterprise, Business Banking, NatWest and Debbie Bird from Now Baby. Awards were presented in fourteen categories including ‘Best International Flexible Business’, ‘Best Charity Offering Flexible Working’ and ‘Most Inspiring Business Parent of the Year’.
From seo agencies to swim schools and mentors to marketing companies
We were impressed by the variety of businesses that were featured in the awards and the individual success that each had achieved. We particularly enjoyed hearing Working Parent Blogger of the Year winner Sarah-Jane Honeywell talk with passion about how she feels about becoming a mother and writing her award winning blog.
Susannah Schofield OBE closed the awards ceremony with real energy. She reminded us of how fast the world of technology is changing and about following our passion in an ever changing market. Since Get Ahead VA started six years ago technology has continued to evolve at a record pace. But our commitment to supporting small business owners with flexible services remains the same.
Time to celebrate
After the awards all the finalists were celebrated with a fabulous networking reception. We met and mingled over a glass of wine and canapés, engaging with the expert judges, celebrities, media partners and other members of the press along with speakers, finalists, winners, sponsors and other VIP guests.
Our Founder Rebecca Newenham attended the event and said: “We were thrilled to have been selected as a finalist for these awards for the third year running and to be able to attend the event. The night was filled with inspiring stories from individuals and companies who are embracing flexible working just as we do and proving that it works. We would like to extend our congratulations to Wagada who won Flexible Business of the Year and all the other winners. We were proud to be nominated alongside such incredible businesses.”
