What situation was your business in when you came to Get Ahead VA? We were a start-up business. We had made good inroads, but quickly found ourselves getting bogged down in things we weren’t very good at, things that were time consuming, things that were essential but not adding value to the business.
What problems were you experiencing? We were spending a lot of time managing the recruitment of apprentices onto our programme. This was taking up too much of our time and as a result we weren’t getting important tasks like business development and marketing activities done.
What might have happened if you hadn’t taken any action? We would have been even more stressed! We couldn’t have grown our business in the way we wanted to or at the rate we wanted to.
How did Get Ahead VA help solve the problem for you? Get Ahead VA has made a huge difference in two key areas of our business. The first was picking up some of the day to day admin – we run training courses so there is a significant amount of logistical admin such as booking accommodation, venues for trainers etc that needs to be done. The second area was in recruitment, including cv filtering and telephone screening apprentices. This vital screening has meant that attendance at our training courses has increased. We now know we are getting the right people onto the programme, that are more committed to seeing it through.
Why did you choose a VA and not a part time member of staff? Flexibility was the key. Starting a new business is stressful and being able to control costs tightly gave us peace of mind. Knowing that we are not tied in and that we can simply pay as we go, only paying for exactly what we need, when we need it, made it better value for money.
What has this meant to you and your business? As a result we have been able to grow the business sustainably and with peace of mind – working with people we know we can trust. We have more confidence that we are doing the best job we can as we have the right support.
