Today is International Women's Day which celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. This year’s theme is all about change, calling on everyone to #BeBoldForChange and help forge a better working world which is more inclusive and gender equal.
Here at Get Ahead VA we are passionate about the achievements of women in the workplace. Our business was founded by a woman and the vast majority of our team of highly experienced virtual assistants are women. We are also lucky to count a number of highly successful women amongst our clients.
Stories of Success:
To mark #IWD2017 we share 3 stories of successful woman who have been bold and changed their lives for good:
Miisa Mink, Founder of Driven Woman and client of Get Ahead VA
Finnish born Miisa is a chief doer and founder at DrivenWoman, a proactive women’s network; co-owner and chairman of Nordic Bakery, a design café chain in London. Prior to her entrepreneurial career, Miisa was known as a highly-accomplished branding professional, opening offices for a global advertising network in Helsinki, Moscow, Brussels and Istanbul.
Miisa says: “I believe it is time women start living their passion, create meaningful careers that make a positive impact and ‘have it all’ by maintaining a balanced lifestyle. I made that decision that I didn’t want to go back to the big corporate office. I got organised and learnt new things. I wasn’t afraid to fail but to learn from the process. I now run the DrivenWoman network and was proud to recently create a ‘Festival Of Doers’, an empowering day to celebrate women who do amazing things. The event was a huge success and an inspiring occasion for both organisers and attendees alike. I have already set the date for next year’s event on 26th January 2018.”
Starr Meneely, Author, Publisher and virtual assistant at Get Ahead VA
Alaskan born Starr edited and published independent print magazine The Mother. The title had a vast reach, with the Facebook page alone reaching 1.5 million people in one particular week. She has also written a children’s book called What a Lovely Sound which was published in 2013.
Starr says: “The Mother magazine was a challenging and rewarding project that allowed me to work with influential writers and professionals around the world. It definitely helped shape my career in an extraordinary way. It was, without contrast, a life changing experience. I never grow tired of seeing how an idea or a dream comes to life, and the audience that grows along with it.”
Rebecca Newenham, Founder & Director of Get Ahead VA
Rebecca started virtual agency Get ahead VA in 2010. She was looking for a flexible work solution that would enable her to use the skills gained in her corporate buying career, as well as be there for her three children. Six years later the award-winning business now has a team of over 30 virtual assistants.
Rebecca says: “I always knew I wanted to run my own business, just as my mother did when I was growing up. After reviewing various options I decided on a virtual assistant business and I haven’t looked back since. I knew I wanted to employ other mums and give them the kind of flexible work that I had been looking for. There are so many highly talented and experienced women that are still struggling to find meaningful flexible employment solutions, particularly after they have had children. I am very lucky to be able to cherry pick the best of them for my team and our clients.”
At Get Ahead VA we love to support entrepreneurs and small businesses – both male and female, empowering them to achieve their goals.
Our team of highly experienced virtual assistants love to take on the tasks you don’t have time to do, don’t have the skills to do, or simply don’t want to do.
Please get in touch on 01483 332220 or email us at email@example.com to find out more about our nationwide virtual assistant service. We pride ourselves on being the staff you don’t see, but the difference you do.
