People often talk about setting New Year’s resolutions for themselves, but the end of the year can be a great time for setting New Year’s resolutions for your business too. A new year is a new beginning and businesses sometimes have some quieter time between Christmas and New Year in which to think about the year ahead and what can be achieved.
First it is important to reflect on the year coming to a close:
What were the highlights? Business achievements you are most proud of? Perhaps a new client won or a new improvement in profitability? Think about other areas where you are missing your objectives. Are you growing as fast as you want to? Are you spending your time on the right things, or getting drained by administrative tasks or other distractions?
Set clear objectives for the year ahead and don’t be afraid to think big:
Where do you want to be in 12 months’ time and how are you going to achieve it? If you are really going to step up the pace of growth you may need outside support to help you manage the demands of both running and growing your business. Who will service your existing clients if you are focussed on gaining new ones? Have the confidence to think big and aim high.
The key to accelerating the growth in your business could actually be having the confidence to outsource and delegate. Consider tasks that have to be done, but don’t add value to your business. Could passing on those tasks to someone else allow you to focus on doing what you do best? Think about where your skills lie and how an assistant could enable you to concentrate on those strengths and plug any gaps where you need them. Outsourcing to a virtual assistant could be the answer – slotting in exactly when and where you need them, to complete the tasks that you need to get done.
